Job Description

To provide material selection and corrosion engineering maintenance management to Assets and
Project Teams as a consultant in materials ensuring cost effective material selection and corrosion
mitigation strategies which will ensure (technical) integrity of the materials applied in subsurface and
surface hydrocarbon production, processing and transportation systems through their life cycle.
 Support a cost-effective material selection of COMPANY engineering projects during the
design phase.
 Carry out integrity inspections of pipelines, piping, vessels etc and initiate a process to carry
out repair of anomaly if found.
 Initiate MoC process for any identified changes that is not Like for like and manage them via
Shell management of change process. Ensure that P&ID are updated
 Provide M&C discipline support in the Select and Define phases in the delivery of
modifications and projects. Key deliverables are the Basis for Design and Project Specification.
 Support the Identify & Assess phase in the delivery of modifications and projects. This will
primarily involve providing M&C discipline input as required into initial scoping and business
case development. This requires an effective interface with the Appraisal team within
Engineering.
 Ensure that material selection and corrosion management strategies for oil and gas facilities
will provide technical integrity during the projected life cycle.
 Ensure that HSE matters are given due consideration in the selection of materials and the
corrosion mitigation strategy.
 Ensure materials are selected in line with relevant COMPANY/Shell/ International standards
and specifications.
 Support evaluation and application of new technology in order to optimise future
developments in terms of cost and operability. Expand the use of currently used materials
where practical to reduce costs and risk of failure.

Degree in a relevant engineering discipline or higher in a materials/Metallurgic related
subject. Experience should be a minimum of 10 years in the oil & gas industry, Upstream/
Downstream particularly in project execution activities.
 Significant professional experience in the Metallurgy/Materials discipline.
 The M&C Engineer is expected to have a sound background in engineering, as well as
knowledge in the field of process technology, metallurgy, equipment design, and corrosion
degradation modes.
 Good knowledge of relevant Shell (will this disqualify “outsiders”?) and International
engineering standards, best practices, systems
 Mastery in depth competencies a in material selection (metallic & non-metallic materials),
corrosion principles, metallurgy and welding, corrosion protection, corrosion management,
pipeline inspection and maintenance, integrity of static equipment, cathodic protection and
coating systems.
 Working experience on part of, or the entire, Project life cycle (from conceptual design
through to final commissioning and handover) and/or in the front-line oil and gas production
operations is desirable. Broad experience in a multi-project EP company environment.
 Demonstrated contribution in providing special material solution for Sour service, EOR, steam
and/or other specialized recovery techniques.
 Field experience gathered from a wide range of locations.
 Ability to quickly establish relationships with practitioners to ensure discipline engineering
processes and standards are consistently applied.
 Aware of & familiar with issues surrounding high pressure and high H2S facilities and have
managed staff in a similarly challenging high-risk environment.
 Experience/qualifications with welding engineering are advantages.
 Important soft skills include: Strong written and verbal communication skills, the ability to
listen well, good organizational skills, self-motivated to learn, successful experience working
as part of a team being comfortable with change and being able to respond rapidly to it.
Results oriented. Customer focused.
 A HSSE driven mindset
 Exposure to both onshore and Onshore operations and/or project experience will be of an
advantage. In addition, experience in working in remote field locations (e.g. desert, tropical,
arctic environments) would be an advantage. Having previous experience working in a high
concentration H2S environment is essential/desirable
