Job Description
The Fleet Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the company's vehicle fleet, ensuring its optimal performance, cost-effectiveness, safety, and compliance with all relevant regulations. This role involves managing vehicle acquisition, maintenance, dispatch, fuel management, driver supervision, and technological integration to support efficient operations and meet business objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Fleet Operations & Efficiency:
Develop and implement strategies for efficient fleet utilization, routing, and scheduling to optimize service delivery and reduce operational costs.
Monitor vehicle performance, fuel consumption, and operational metrics, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions.
Manage vehicle dispatch and allocation to meet daily operational demands and project requirements.
Implement and oversee asset tracking systems (e.g., GPS, telematics) to monitor vehicle location, status, and driver behavior.
Maintenance & Asset Management:
Develop and manage comprehensive preventative maintenance programs for all vehicles to ensure reliability, extend asset life, and minimize downtime.
Coordinate and oversee all vehicle repairs, servicing, and inspections, either in-house or through third-party vendors.
Manage vehicle acquisition (purchasing, leasing) and disposal processes, ensuring vehicles meet operational needs and budget constraints.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all fleet assets, including registration, licensing, maintenance history, and warranty information.
Safety & Compliance:
Ensure all fleet operations comply with local, national, and company health, safety, and environmental regulations.
Implement and enforce fleet safety policies and procedures, including regular driver training, accident reporting, and investigation.
Manage vehicle insurance policies, renewals, and claims processing.
Ensure all drivers possess valid licenses and adhere to driving regulations and company policies.
Budgeting & Cost Control:
Develop and manage the annual fleet budget, including expenses for acquisition, maintenance, fuel, insurance, and personnel.
Monitor and analyze fleet expenditures, identifying opportunities for cost savings and improved financial performance.
Negotiate contracts with vendors for fuel, parts, maintenance services, and vehicle purchasing/leasing.
Personnel Management (Drivers & Technicians):
Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate fleet personnel (drivers, mechanics if applicable).
Develop and implement driver performance metrics and incentive programs.
Address driver-related issues, grievances, and disciplinary actions in accordance with company policy.
Technology & Reporting:
Utilize fleet management software, telematics data, and other technologies to enhance operational efficiency, safety, and reporting.
Prepare and present regular fleet performance reports to senior management, highlighting key metrics, costs, and strategic recommendations.
