Job Description
Job Purpose
The Account Officer is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, managing day-to-day accounting tasks, and supporting internal and external financial reporting. The role ensures compliance with company policies, financial regulations, and supports the farm’s operational efficiency through effective financial tracking and reporting.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Record-Keeping & Transactions
Record daily financial transactions using accounting software (e.g., Sage, QuickBooks, or ERP system).
Prepare and maintain general ledger entries, journals, and trial balances.
Process invoices, receipts, payments, and other financial documents.
Reconcile bank statements and resolve any discrepancies.
Accounts Payable & Receivable
Monitor and follow up on outstanding receivables from customers and distributors.
Process vendor payments and ensure accurate documentation of payables.
Maintain updated supplier and customer ledgers.
Payroll & Employee Reimbursements
Support payroll processing, including staff allowances, deductions, and remittances.
Handle staff expense claims and reimbursements with proper authorization.
Reporting & Compliance
Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
Support audits (internal and external) by providing necessary documentation.
Ensure tax and statutory compliance (e.g., VAT, PAYE, pension contributions).
Maintain proper filing and archiving of financial records.
Support to Operations
Liaise with procurement, HR, and farm operations teams to ensure financial accuracy.
Track budgets, project expenditures, and report variances to management.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Minimum of 2–3 years of accounting experience (preferably in agriculture, FMCG, or manufacturing).
Proficiency in accounting software (Sage, QuickBooks, or ERP systems).
Strong understanding of Nigerian tax laws and financial regulations.
Experience with inventory accounting is an added advantage.
