Job Summary
Fish farm assistants assist the farm manager to breed and rear fish in ponds and tanks.
Job Responsibilities
Feeding fish by hand
Grading fish by size, moving them to bigger tanks or ponds
Checking and maintaining water quality
Checking fish for disease, preventing and treating infection
Making sure hygiene standards are high, to prevent disease
Draining and cleaning tanks, filters and nets
Washing the ponds
Keeping records of the numbers and sizes of fish stocked
Assist the manager to plan breeding programs and grow schedules to obtain maximum efficiency.
Pay close attention to detail, in order to avoid expensive fish losses
Getting fish ready for sale, gutting them and packing them in ice for transport
Assist in fish processing.
Maintaining buildings and equipment, involving basic joinery, plumbing and electrical work.
Any other work as may be assigned by the farm manager.
Expected Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Candidates should possess OND / HND / Bachelor's Degrees with 2 - 10 years relevant work experience.
Updated knowledge of fish health and nutrition
Be organized, have good communication and interpersonal skill.
Have the ability to multitask.
