Technical Manager (Paints and Coatings)

We are looking for an experienced Technical Manager to lead product development, process control, and testing, ensuring top-tier product performance and quality. You will drive continuous improvement in product design, raw material evaluation, and formulation optimization, while ensuring compliance with ISO standards. This role also involves managing technical operations, resources, and budgets, and collaborating with external stakeholders to uphold safety and quality standards across the business.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead the technical team in driving continuous improvement in product design and quality performance through product, competitor, raw material, and process evaluations.
Ensure all products comply with local regulations and company policies for health, safety, and the environment.
Manage compliance with ISO 9001 and implement ongoing improvements in operational processes to ensure superior product quality.
Oversee technical operations and resources to ensure cost-effective production, product fitness, and profitability.
Ensure robust in-process controls and testing, promoting a ‘right-first-time’ culture throughout the business.
Lead the calibration and control of all equipment to maintain optimal process and quality controls.
Manage recruitment, training, and development of technical personnel to support both current and future business needs.
Develop and implement continuous improvement strategies (KPIs) for all aspects of the technical function, including new product development, raw material quality, and complaint resolution.
Initiate programs to streamline product development and quality control, adhering to LEAN principles and ISO standards.
Control budgets and resources for the technical department’s activities and ensure effective team collaboration.
Participate in senior management meetings to help shape strategic direction and lead technical meetings to resolve operational and quality issues.

Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific field.
Minimum of 10 years' relevant experience in a technical management role.
Proven track record of driving continuous improvement and achieving exceptional results in product design, quality control, and operational efficiency.
In-depth knowledge of business objectives and their application to product development and quality management.
Strong problem-solving abilities, with a proactive approach to identifying and addressing potential issues.
Experience with paint formulation, design, and quality testing is highly desirable.
Highly organized and confident in presenting and managing teams.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop high-performing teams.
