Position: Head of Production (Video Production)

Job Description (Summary);
The Head of Production will oversee and drive the video strategy and execution, leading the creation of video content that is culturally relevant and commercially successful across platforms. This role produces iconic, high-quality videos while balancing creative experimentation, operational efficiency, and revenue generation.
As the leader, you will guide both Editorial and Commercial teams under a unified vision to make video content the most engaging, innovative, and impactful in Africa.
Strategic Leadership
Develop and execute a video content strategy aligned with the mission to touch the cultural nerve and lead platform ubiquity.
Establish the video production unit as a powerhouse with an unmatched ability to produce videos that resonate deeply with African audiences.
Lead the ideation and production of flagship video shows and series that drive cultural conversations and audience loyalty.
Build a roadmap for platform-specific excellence across YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and emerging platforms.
Own and track performance metrics (KPIs), including reach, engagement, monetisation, and ROI.
Creative Vision and Execution
Set the bar for creative excellence: strong concepts, emotional resonance, high production values, and cultural relevance.
Collaborate with Writers, Show-runners, Cinematographers, Editors, and the Growth team to create content across short-form, mid-length, and long-form formats.
Drive data-informed creative experimentation to balance insights with imaginative risks.
Oversee pre-production, production, and post-production workflows to deliver videos on time, on budget, and at scale.
Monetisation and Revenue Growth
Develop and implement a robust monetisation strategy, from platform monetisation to brand content and sponsorships.
Collaborate with the Commercial team to pitch and execute branded campaigns that align client goals with creative standards.
Maximise revenue opportunities without compromising editorial integrity or cultural impact.
Operational Excellence
Lead and optimise production workflows.
Streamline tools, timelines, and workflows for efficiency, scalability, and consistency in video output.
Manage production budgets and resources effectively to deliver maximum value.
Team Leadership and Development
Lead and inspire a diverse team, including Producers, Videographers, Editors, Social Media Managers, and Data Analysts.
Foster collaboration between Editorial, Commercial, and Distribution teams, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.
Recruit, mentor, and upskill team members to maintain a culture of excellence, creativity, and accountability.
Encourage cross-functional collaboration to achieve seamless workflows and high-impact results.

Required Qualifications
Minimum of five years of experience in journalism, digital media, or publishing, with at least two years in a leadership or editorial management role.
Demonstrated experience in video production, digital content creation, and/or a senior creative leadership role.
Experience leading production in a media company is an advantage, but not a deal breaker.
Proven track record of creating successful, culturally impactful video content across platforms like YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook.
Experience building and leading high-performing creative teams.
Demonstrated success in revenue generation through video content (e.g., branded partnerships, monetisation strategies).
Strong project management experience with the ability to handle multiple projects under tight deadlines.
