Architect

Job Summary:
The architect is responsible for the design, planning, and oversight of construction projects, ensuring they are functional, aesthetically pleasing, and compliant with building codes and regulations. The architect collaborates with clients, engineers, and construction teams to deliver designs that meet client needs and project specifications.

Key Responsibilities:
Client Consultation: Meet with clients to understand their needs, vision, and requirements for projects. Offer advice on feasibility, design concepts, budget, and timeline.
Design Development: Develop architectural designs for buildings, landscapes, and other structures. This includes conceptual drawings, detailed blueprints, and 3D models using design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp).
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure designs comply with local building codes, zoning laws, health, safety regulations, and environmental sustainability standards.
Project Management: Oversee the construction process to ensure that the project is progressing according to the design, within budget, and on schedule. Coordinate with contractors, engineers, and other stakeholders to resolve any issues that arise during construction.
Construction Documentation: Prepare detailed construction documents, including plans, specifications, and cost estimates. Ensure that all necessary permits and approvals are obtained before the construction process begins.
Site Analysis: Conduct site visits and analysis to evaluate land conditions, existing structures, and environmental factors that may influence the design or construction process.
Budget and Cost Control: Work with clients to establish a project budget, monitor spending, and propose cost-effective solutions to stay within budget while maintaining quality.
Sustainability and Innovation: Advocate for and implement sustainable design practices. Incorporate energy-efficient, environmentally friendly solutions where possible, including renewable energy sources, green building materials, and waste-reduction strategies.
Collaboration with Engineers: Work closely with structural, mechanical, electrical, and civil engineers to integrate their inputs into the design and ensure technical feasibility.
Presentation and Reporting: Create presentations for clients, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies to communicate design concepts, progress, and final plans. Provide regular project updates and reports to clients and senior management.
Skills and Qualifications:
Education: A Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Architecture from an accredited institution.
Professional Certification: Registration with the Architects Registration Council of Nigeria (ARCON) is required. Membership with professional organizations such as the Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA) may be beneficial.
Experience: At least 3-5 years of experience in architecture, with a proven track record of working on residential, commercial, or mixed-use projects.
Design Software: Proficiency in architectural design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, ArchiCAD, and 3D modeling tools like Rhino or SketchUp. Knowledge of BIM (Building Information Modeling) is an advantage.
Knowledge of Local Regulations: Familiarity with Nigerian building codes, zoning laws, and other local regulations governing construction in Lagos and Nigeria at large.
Project Management Skills: Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, maintain deadlines, and coordinate with various teams.
Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail in design, planning, and documentation to ensure accuracy and consistency in all phases of a project.
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders effectively.
Problem-Solving: Ability to identify challenges in the design and construction processes and develop creative, effective solutions.
Sustainability Knowledge: Understanding of green building principles and sustainable construction practices.
