Job Description
This Service plays a very significant role in the implementation of Land Transportation Safety (LTS) processes for the company. Coordinates Land Transportation operations and exercises administrative oversight of all professional drivers in Lagos. Coordinates the safe execution of various planned commuting manifests for Crew Change, domestic airport, international airport, city commuting and intra state movements. Collaborates with multiple customers / stakeholders such as Security, IT, Medical and HSE groups with regards to enabling systems and processes such as escort provision, radio communication, Fitness-for-duty (FFD) etc. The person in the position must possess excellent knowledge of Operational Excellence (OE), and HSE policies and procedures which are crucial to support Land Transportation operations.
This shall include, but not be limited to the following:
(a) Coordination: Oversee, coordinate the day-to-day of the Transportation team operations (movement of passengers, goods, vehicles and drivers), based on planned or scheduled routine trips, as well as non-routine or ad-hoc trips and ensuring that work is completed safely, efficiently and effectively. Also, provide leadership and direction to team members, including setting goals and expectations, removing barriers and coaching.
(b) Scheduling and Routing: Create and manage schedules, routes, and delivery times to ensure efficient transportation operations. Also, develop and implement processes and procedures to improve efficiency and productivity.
(c) Communication: Communicate with drivers, customers, and other stakeholders to provide updates, resolve issues, and ensure smooth operations.
(d) Problem-Solving: Troubleshoot and resolve problems that arise during transportation, such as delays, accidents, or vehicle breakdowns per company procedures. Also analyze data and metrics to identify trends and areas for improvement.
(e) Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate records of transportation operations, including driver hours, vehicle maintenance, and delivery times
(f) Operational Excellence: Drive strong OE focus and safety as well as lead and implement OE processes, work procedures/practices, etc to assure zero serious injury and fatality.
Qualifications & Skills Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree and minimum of 5 years’ experience in transportation, logistics or fleet management related field, in leadership and or supervisory role.
• Certifications such as the Certified Dispatcher Certification or the Certified Transportation Broker Certification can be beneficial.
• Training in transportation industry regulations, safety procedures, and transportation management systems can be advantageous.
• Computer literacy with experience in the use of Microsoft Office tools.
• Experience in the use of Microsoft Project or Primavera is beneficial.
• Experience with Transportation Management Software (TMS) such as Transportation Insight or JDA or other Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software is advantageous.
Other Requirements:
• Must possess a valid driver's license
• Must pass a security background check as may be required by company.
• Must be physically fit with ability to sit for long periods
• The ideal candidate should possess the following:
• Knowledge of Transportation Regulations: Understanding and applying local transportation laws and regulations; knowledge of Land Transportation Safety (LTS) standards, processes and protocols will be an added advantage.
• Planning: Proficiency in planning efficient routes, schedules, and resource allocation (drivers and vehicles) to optimize operations and passenger experience.
• Fleet Management: Ability to manage and maintain a fleet of vehicles, ensuring they are in good working condition.
• Safety: Experience in operationalizing Company safety standards and procedures to ensure safe transportation operations.
• Communication: Effective communication skills to convey instructions clearly and maintain the required level of communication with all stakeholders.
• Leadership: Strong leadership abilities to motivate and manage a team, ensuring high performance and a positive work environment.
• Organizational skills: Effective organizational skills to coordinate the various activities and processes that are necessary for the smooth operation of the Land Transportation team.
• Problem-Solving and Adaptability: Ability to quickly assess situations and implement effective solutions to overcome challenges; must be able to adapt to changing circumstances and priorities to ensure that the organization is operating effectively.
• Teamwork and Interpersonal skills: Collaborative skills to work effectively with a diverse team and across functions. Must be able to work effectively with a wide range of people, including team members, supervisors, and other stakeholders to ensure business continuity.
• Flexibility: The work schedule require flexibility to work after regular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays – as may be dictated by operations.
1.2 Work Duration: Eight (8) hours daily for office locations; twelve (12) hours daily for field locations.
