Job Description

Job Summary
The Generator Operations and Maintenance Technician is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of diesel and natural gas generators to ensure uninterrupted power supply. The role includes regular inspections, troubleshooting, and performance optimization of the generators in compliance with safety and operational standards.
Key Responsibilities:
1.Generator Operations:
Operate diesel and natural gas generators to meet the facility’s power requirements.
Monitor generator performance during operation and take immediate action to resolve issues.
Maintain fuel and gas supply systems to ensure uninterrupted generator operation.
2.Routine Maintenance:
Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance tasks such as oil changes, filter replacements, and cleaning of components.
Maintain proper records of maintenance schedules and completed tasks.
3.Troubleshooting and Repairs:
Diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical issues with generators and associated systems.
Replace worn or faulty components and recommend necessary repairs or upgrades.
4.Performance Optimization:
Monitor generator efficiency and performance metrics, identifying areas for improvement.
Adjust settings and controls to optimize generator output and fuel consumption.
5.Safety and Compliance:
Ensure all operations and maintenance activities comply with safety and environmental regulations.
Conduct risk assessments and implement safety measures during maintenance and repair work.
Maintain proper ventilation and ensure safe handling of fuel and gas supplies.
6.Documentation and Reporting:
Record generator operational logs, including runtime, load conditions, and fuel consumption.
Prepare maintenance and performance reports for submission to management.
7.Emergency Response:
Respond promptly to generator failures or emergencies to restore power supply.
Perform rapid diagnostics and implement corrective actions during power outages.
8.Other Responsibilities:
Support other technical staff with maintenance tasks as needed.
Perform additional duties assigned by the Maintenance Manager.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Generator uptime and reliability rates.
Adherence to preventive maintenance schedules.
Reduction in emergency repair incidents.
Efficient fuel and gas consumption rates.
Skills and Qualifications
Education:
Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
Experience:
More than 5 years of experience in maintenance and operation of 800KW or more natural gas generators or diesel generators.
Experience with generator control systems and electrical circuits is preferred.
Technical Skills:
Strong knowledge of diesel and natural gas generator systems, including engines, alternators, and control panels.
Proficiency in troubleshooting mechanical and electrical faults.
Familiarity with safety standards and operational guidelines for generator systems.
Soft Skills:
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Good communication and teamwork abilities.
Attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.
Work Environment
May involve working in confined spaces, high-noise environments, or extreme weather conditions.
Requires handling of fuel, gas, and electrical equipment.
May require working on-call or during irregular hours to respond to emergencies.
