Job Description
1. Provide patient care: Administer medications, perform wound care, and execute other treatment interventions as prescribed by a physician. This includes monitoring patient vital signs, symptoms, and progress to ensure safe and effective treatment.
2. Assess and evaluate patients: Conduct thorough physical examinations and collect detailed patient health histories. Nurses must use critical thinking to identify changes in a patient's condition and take appropriate action.
3. Educate and counsel: Teach patients and their families about health conditions, treatment plans, and self-care techniques for managing illnesses or injuries at home. This is especially important for discharge planning.
4. Coordinate and collaborate: Work with an interdisciplinary team of doctors, specialists, therapists, and social workers to develop and execute comprehensive care plans.
5. Maintain accurate records: Document all patient information, including assessments, care plans, and treatment administration, using electronic health records (EHR) software.
6. Serve as a patient advocate: Represent the patient's best interests within the healthcare system, especially when they are unable to speak for themselves due to illness or pain.
