Job Description (Summary)
As Sales Officer, you will be responsible for driving sales of petroleum products, maintaining client relationships, ensuring timely deliveries, and supporting business development efforts across retail and corporate sectors.
Key Responsibilities
Sales and Revenue Generation
Sell petroleum products such as Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), Aviation Turbine Kerosene (ATK), Liquefied Natural Gas (LPG), and other lubricants to retail and corporate clients.
Meet or exceed quarterly and annual sales targets as set by the company.
Identify new business opportunities to expand the company’s market share in the downstream sector.
Client Relationship Management
Build and maintain strong relationships with existing clients, including corporate organizations, industrial clients, and fuel stations.
Address client inquiries, concerns, and complaints professionally and promptly.
Conduct regular follow-ups with customers to ensure satisfaction and repeat business.
Market Research and Analysis
Monitor market trends, product prices, competitors' activities, and customer preferences to identify potential opportunities or threats.
Provide management with insights and recommendations for product pricing, promotions, or new offerings.
Stay updated on industry developments, including regulatory changes in the Nigerian oil and gas sector.
Product Delivery Coordination
Collaborate with the logistics team to ensure timely delivery of products to customers.
Verify delivery documentation and ensure accurate invoicing for every transaction.
Resolve any logistical issues, such as delays or discrepancies in product quantity or quality when it relates to our stations.
Reporting and Documentation
Maintain accurate records of sales transactions, client communications, and product deliveries.
Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly sales reports to management.
Update customer databases with relevant information and feedback.
Credit and Payment Management
Ensure that payments are made and confirmed before the product is released to a client.
Liaise with the finance department to resolve payment-related issues or disputes.
Marketing and Business Development
Promote the company’s products and services through targeted marketing campaigns and customer visits.
Attend industry events, exhibitions, and meetings to represent the company and network with potential clients.
Assist in developing promotional materials, sales presentations, and pricing strategies.
Compliance and Ethical Conduct
Ensure all sales activities comply with industry regulations, including those set by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) and other relevant bodies.
Uphold ethical standards in dealings with clients and other stakeholders.
Report any non-compliance or fraudulent activities within the sales process.
Team Collaboration
Work closely with the Business Development, Logistics, and Finance teams to ensure seamless execution of sales and deliveries.
Participate in team meetings to discuss performance, challenges, and strategies for improvement.
Share market insights and feedback with colleagues to align sales strategies with customer needs.
Inventory and Stock Monitoring
Keep track of product availability and ensure adequate stock levels are maintained to meet customer demand.
Communicate with the depot or storage facility to confirm product availability before confirming sales orders.
Monitor product quality and ensure that only products meeting company standards are sold to clients.
Risk Management
Identify and mitigate risks related to customer defaults, market fluctuations, product quality and operational inefficiencies.
Ensure all transactions are transparent and follow due process.
Report any potential risks to management promptly.
Negotiation and Closing Deals
Negotiate pricing, payment terms, and delivery schedules with clients to close sales deals.
Ensure all agreements are documented and signed by both parties to avoid disputes.
Follow up on existing and prospective clients and convert leads into successful sales.
Required Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Economics, Petroleum Management, or a related field.
2 years in business development, sales, or commercial roles. Experience in downstream oil and gas is an added advantage.
Excellent communication and relationship management skills.
Strategic thinking and market analysis.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, and sales tools.
