Job Description
The Size Press Operator at EPPL Factory is responsible for operating and maintaining the size press section of the paper machine. The role ensures proper application of sizing agents, monitors equipment performance, and ensures quality control of the paper surface during production. The operator must adhere to production schedules, optimize machine performance, and maintain high safety and operational standards
Responsibilities
Operate size press unit efficiently according to standard operating procedures.
Maintain proper starch application and ensure consistent paper quality.
Monitor key parameters like moisture, starch pickup, reel quality, and machine speed.
Adjust rollers, nip pressure, and solution feed as needed for optimal operation.
Ensure the sizing process enhances paper strength and printability.
Detect and correct paper defects such as streaks, wrinkles, and uneven sizing.
Conduct routine checks and assist in preventive maintenance of the size press section.
Report faults or abnormal behavior to the maintenance and shift supervisor promptly.
Maintain accurate logs of production activities, sizing solution usage, and breakdowns.
Prepare shift-wise reports and handover notes.
Work with the wet end and dry end operators for synchronized production.
Coordinate with quality control and maintenance teams for smooth operations.
Maintain cleanliness of the size press area, ensuring spills and leaks are promptly managed.
Qualifications
• Minimum of Secondary School Certificate (SSCE); Technical diploma or certification in mechanical/production operations is an added advantage.
• Certification as a 1st class Boiler Operator is required
• 5 years of experience operating high-pressure boilers in a power plant or industrial setting.
Experience in paper manufacturing is required
Technical and Behavioral Skills
Understanding of the paper manufacturing process and the size press function.
Ability to operate mechanical systems and interpret control parameters.
Basic knowledge of sizing/starch application and its impact on paper quality.
Attention to detail, quick problem-solving, and mechanical aptitude.
Ability to work in a shift system and under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Factory-based role with exposure to hot surfaces, rotating machinery, and chemical usage.
Strict adherence to safety protocols is mandatory.
EMPLOYMENT TYPE
Full-time position with rotating shifts.
Flexibility to work weekends, night shifts, and public holidays as required.
