Job Description
The Pharmacy Technician is responsible for supporting the Hospital Pharmacist in the safe, efficient, and effective delivery of pharmacy services. This includes medication preparation and dispensing, stock management, patient counseling, documentation, and clerical support. The Pharmacy Technician plays a vital role in ensuring the safe and appropriate use of medicines within the hospital.
Key Responsibilities:
Dispensing & Patient Support
Accept and review prescriptions or refill requests from patients, ensuring completeness and accuracy.
Assemble, label, and dispense medications using correct dosages, formulation, and packaging for each patient.
Obtain Pharmacist’s verification and approval on prescriptions before final dispensing.
Respond to basic patient questions about medication use and potential side effects; escalate complex concerns to the Pharmacist.
Assist patients with paperwork and documentation related to prescriptions.
Participate in on-call duty as scheduled by the department or hospital management.
Clerical & Administrative Duties
Clean, sterilize, and organize pharmacy equipment and work areas at the beginning of each shift.
Ensure the pharmacy is tidy and medications are stored safely and appropriately.
Complete and update patient records in physical files and/or electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
Support processing of Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) or insurance claims, where required.
Submit timely and accurate reports on medication usage and inventory (weekly, monthly, etc.).
Attend departmental and facility-wide meetings and contribute to team goals.
Inventory & Stock Management
Rotate stock, check for expired medications, and perform regular inventory checks.
Assist with re-ordering, receiving, stocking, and labelling medications and medical supplies.
Monitor medication conditions (e.g., temperature-sensitive drugs) to prevent stock-out, wastage, or deterioration.
Support the Pharmacist in maintaining optimal inventory levels and proper documentation.
Team Collaboration
Work closely with the Pharmacist and hospital staff to ensure a seamless patient care experience.
Report operational or medication-related issues to the Pharmacist or Department Head.
Maintain a respectful and professional attitude toward patients, colleagues, and supervisors.

- ₦150,000.00 Monthly
