Job Description

A port operations staff will be responsible for the smooth and efficient movement of cargo within a port, including receiving vessels, managing cargo handling, coordinating with various stakeholders, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations; key responsibilities include: vessel berthing coordination, cargo documentation processing, supervising stevedoring operations, maintaining operational records, coordinating with customs and terminal operators, and adhering to safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities of a Port Operations Staff:
Vessel Arrival and Departure Coordination:
Communicating with ship masters regarding berthing schedules and port procedures.
Managing vessel traffic within the port area.
Coordinating pilot services and tugboat assistance.

Cargo Handling Operations:
Overseeing cargo loading and unloading activities, including container handling.
Managing stevedoring crews and equipment.
Ensuring proper cargo stowage and securing procedures.

Documentation and Paperwork:
Processing shipping documents like bills of lading, manifests, and customs declarations.
Maintaining accurate records of cargo movements and inventory.
Coordinating with customs authorities for clearance procedures.

Terminal Operations Management:
Allocating container storage space within the terminal.
Managing truck and rail movements for cargo delivery and pick-up.
Coordinating with terminal operators for efficient cargo flow.

Safety and Security:
Enforcing port safety regulations and procedures.
Monitoring for potential hazards and reporting incidents.

Stakeholder Communication:
Collaborating with shipping lines, freight forwarders, and customs brokers.
Providing timely updates on vessel arrival and cargo status.
Resolving operational issues and complaints.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
Technical Knowledge:
