• As we expand, we are seeking a diligent and detail-oriented Internal Control Officer
to oversee internal audit functions, manage risks, and ensure regulatory compliance at our Epe branch.
The successful candidate will report to the Head of Risk and Compliance and play a critical role in strengthening the
bank’s internal controls and governance framework.
Key Responsibilities
1. Internal Audit Functions:
• Conduct periodic audits of financial, operational, and compliance activities to ensure adherence to internal
controls, policies, and regulatory requirements.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of internal processes and recommend improvements.
• Prepare detailed audit reports and present findings to the Head of Risk and Compliance.
2. Risk Management:
• Identify, assess, and monitor operational, financial, and compliance risks within the bank.
• Collaborate with relevant departments to develop risk mitigation strategies.
• Maintain the risk register and ensure that risks are appropriately escalated and addressed.
3. Regulatory Compliance:
• Ensure the bank’s operations comply with all CBN guidelines, Anti-Money Laundering (AML) laws, and other
regulatory requirements.
• Conduct periodic compliance reviews and report findings to management.
• Provide training and guidance to staff on compliance matters, including regulatory updates.
4. Control Testing and Monitoring:
• Perform regular testing of internal controls to identify weaknesses and ensure effectiveness.
• Develop and monitor action plans to address control deficiencies.
5. Fraud Prevention and Investigation:
• Monitor transactions and systems for signs of fraud or irregularities.
• Conduct investigations into suspected fraud or breaches of policy and recommend corrective actions.
6. Reporting:
• Prepare monthly and quarterly risk, compliance, and audit reports for submission to management and
regulatory authorities.
• Assist the Head of Risk and Compliance in preparing reports for the Board and external stakeholders.
Required Qualifications and Skills
Education:
• An HND/bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
• Professional certifications such as ACA, ACCA, CISA, or CRISC would be an advantage
• A close proximity to Epe is required
Experience:
Minimum of 2 – 4 years of experience in internal audit, risk management, or compliance within the financial services or microfinance sector.
Familiarity with CBN guidelines and other regulatory requirements for microfinance banks.
Skills:
Strong understanding of internal controls, risk management principles, and compliance frameworks.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and audit/risk management software.
Strong communication and report-writing skills.
High level of integrity, attention to detail, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
